Numerous jockeys have great week at Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs
CLAREMORE, Okla. - In the third week of live racing at Cherokee Casino
Will Rogers Downs, jockey Curtis Kimes continued his winning ways,
collecting six victories. To date, Kimes has won 15 races in eight days
of live racing.
But Kimes wasn't the only jockey to find a lot of success in the third
week of racing. Floyd Wethey, Jr. won five races, Benny Landeros won
four and Adrian Ramos added four more victories to his season total,
giving him 12 wins for the meet.
"We have a lot of really good jockeys out here, and it isn't just
limited to the guys who won a lot this week," said Kelly Cathey, racing
secretary for Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs. "The last three days
are further proof that with a lot of talent in every race, anyone can
win any race if they're on the right horse. It makes race days a lot
more exciting to watch."
Another highlight at Will Rogers Downs not involving horse racing last
week was the third annual children's Easter egg hunt. Cathey said the
number of kids scrambling for eggs might have been the best turnout he's
seen to date.
"We had a lot of kids out there running around," Cathey said. "It was
really fun to watch them search for all the eggs. It was also great to
see a lot of families stick around and watch some of the racing. We're
thankful for all the families who participated in the day's activities
and made Saturday fun for all of us."
Beginning this week, the track will feature not only the regular
Saturday, Monday and Tuesday race days, but also a fourth day of live
racing on Wednesday. Post time for Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday is 1:35 p.m. each day.
Will Rogers Downs' live horse racing continues until May 18 and will
begin again September 4 for the racino's first-ever fall meet.
