Car enthusiasts examine one of many classic cars that can be found throughout the parking lot at a recent Cherokee National Holiday Car Show. For the second year, the event will be held at Cherokee Casino Tahlequah on Sunday, Sept. 5.

 

About the 58th Cherokee National Holiday: The Cherokee National Holiday, held annually over Labor Day weekend since 1953, commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Nation Constitution. With its exciting array of entertainment, cultural and athletic events, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 visitors from across the world. The 58th Cherokee National Holiday is a smoke-free event. It is sponsored by the Cherokee Nation, a modern tribe of more than 290,000 citizens with its capital in Tahlequah, Okla. This year’s theme is “Happy, Healthy People,” reflecting the Cherokee celebration of spiritual, mental and physical well-being. Registration open for 7th Annual Cherokee National Holiday Car Show

 

Car show returns to Cherokee Casino Tahlequah on Sept. 5

 

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — For the second consecutive year, Cherokee Casino Tahlequah is the home to the Cherokee National Holiday Car Show, taking place from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5.

 

This year marks the seventh annual appearance of the event during the long-running Cherokee National Holiday, which has occurred during the Labor Day weekend, yearly since 1953.

 

Car show coordinators are currently accepting registration forms for 11 categories, which include each decade, beginning pre-1950 through the 2000s. Other categories include muscle car to 1972, muscle car after 1972, imports and highly customized.

 

“This is a really exciting event where everyone’s a winner. The registration packet is loaded with great stuff and car enthusiasts get to spend time looking at some of the coolest cars from all over the state,” said Roger Barr, general manager for Cherokee Casino Tahlequah. “Last year we had a lot of fun hosting the car show, so we worked hard to make sure it came back to the casino this year.”

 

Registration for the car show is open until 2:30 p.m. the day of the event and judging begins at 3 p.m. Winners of each class will be presented a trophy at the 4 p.m. presentation.

 

Registration cost is $15 and includes a dash plaque, logoed chamois, T-shirt, raffle drawing ticket, $10 rewards play and a $10 coupon to River City Cafe.

 

As part of the day’s festivities at Cherokee Casino, there will be two free concerts. Badwater will play at 2 p.m. and Nick Gibson will perform at 8 p.m.
